Many years ago, I was watching a TV show about newly wedded husband and wives. It was a fun show about how do you know your partner. They would have questions like, “What’s your favourite ice cream flavour?” “What’s your favourite footy team?”

There was a priest who got assigned to a new parish. While listening to  confessions of the people, he noticed that a lot of them confessed that they “fell off the bridge”.

This morning’s powerful Gospel story of healing is meant to give hope and courage to each one of us, for in one way or another we are all wounded and in need of healing!

The liturgy of the day invites us to ponder over the theme of forgiveness. Jesus, in today’s Gospel forgives the woman who was considered a sinner by the people of her town.

Dear friends in Christ Jesus, the liturgy of the day highlights God’s kind heartedness towards all of us and gives ample examples of compassion

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY

In the spirit of reconciliation, the Society of the Divine Word, Australia Province, acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea, sky, and community.

We acknowledge their skin-groups, story-lines, traditions, religiosity and living cultures.

We pay respect to their elders, past, present, and emerging, and extend that respect to all indigenous peoples of New Zealand, Thailand, and Myanmar.

We are committed to building with them, a brighter future together.
